What a cookie is
A cookie is a small file a website stores in your browser. Some are needed for a site to work at all; others measure how a site is used or support advertising. codie.gg aims to use as few as possible.
The categories we use
Strictly necessary cookies keep the site functioning and cannot be switched off. On a static publication these are minimal, and they hold no marketing value: they cover basic delivery of the pages and any preference you set while reading, and nothing about them tracks you across other sites.
Analytics cookies, where switched on, help us understand which pages are read and how readers move through the site, in aggregate. They do not identify you individually. Counting how many people read a page and where they arrive from is separate from knowing who you are, and it is the aggregate we use to decide what to write and what to fix. If a non-essential cookie is ever set in a place where consent is required, that consent is requested first, and declining leaves you free to read the site.
Affiliate tracking is the one area where a click matters commercially. When you click through to an operator, the redirect may set or read a value so that a resulting sign-up is correctly attributed for commission. This does not identify you to us as a person; it records that a click occurred. The value is meaningful to the operator's own system, which pays the commission, rather than being a profile we build here. It is how the site is funded, and it is the reason the reviews stay free to read.
Your choices
You can control cookies through your browser settings, including blocking or deleting them, though blocking strictly necessary cookies may stop parts of the site working. Every major browser lets you clear cookies already stored, block new ones by default, or set an exception for one site, and most offer a private or incognito mode that discards cookies when you close the window. Where the live site requires a consent banner for non-essential cookies, that banner is the place to accept or decline them, and declining will not stop you reading the site.
